Natural Wonders: A Panoramic Vision takes viewers on a spectacular journey through more than twenty of the earth’s most treasured locations. From the magnificence of Alaska to the haunting majesty of the Aurora and the Himalayas, this is a view of our world at its finest and most sublime.
For the first time in printed form, this is a volume captured by a single professional with a consistent artistic vision. For Jaspal Jandu, the project entailed travelling across six continents over a four-year period. It was a journey that highlighted both the magnificence of nature and the fragility of our planet’s ecosystems. As this collection reveals, in the face of man’s relentless expansion, nature’s last remaining wonders represent a legacy of unsurpassed value.
Each of the wonders presented in this volume - from the world’s highest waterfall (Angel Falls) to the largest reef (Great Barrier Reef) and onto the highest mountain (Mount Everest) - exude an incomparable sense of magnificence and beauty. They inspire awe. They act upon us in a similar way to the finest art. The fact that millions of city dwellers flee the claustrophobia of our modern cities in their search for nature surely confirms this intrinsic value. These places seem to fulfil a basic need in human beings, though we might not understand why. Perhaps, like our subconscious requirement for oxygen, we will not begin to quantify the value until they are there no longer. Then we will gasp for what is lost.
For Jaspal Jandu, the project entailed travelling many thousands of kilometres across six continents over a four-year period. The volume divides that overall journey into the six regions of North America, South America, Asia, Australasia, Europe and Africa. Although each has its own distinct character, they form a collective arc through our single planet.
The journey itself has been both rewarding and difficult – for example, battling the equally pernicious forces of hot and cold has taken its fair share of personal sacrifice, not to mention sacrifice of camera equipment. However, Mother Nature is as inspiring as she is harsh, and the travels have been accompanied by some of the most incredible scenes Jaspal has ever captured.
The inspirational photography and strong environmental theme will draw you into the adventure of a lifetime. The collection is printed on premium quality archival paper and bound to the highest of standards. Making full use of a large-format film camera, the volume features superb high resolution printing with sharp, clear images, which are further enhanced and protected by a beautiful gloss varnish. All of the images are presented in a panoramic format and they guide the viewer on a spectacular tour around the natural wonders of our World.
